Circa 510-500/490 BC. Uniface AU presentation piece(?), 3.14 gr., 10 mm.

Obv: helmeted head of Athena to the right.

Rev: blank.

Ref: the style and size of the obverse used conform to Seltman’s Group L hemidrachms and Svoronos Plate 7, 17.  Ex CNG 88 (2011), lot 235.

Unique. Pierced for suspension, slight die shift, spots of earthen encrustation. Good fine.

A rare and enigmatic piece from a turbulent period in this city’s existence.
